Well, I can't be accused for being too excited that COI is starting, but I am so I am starting the gun on this thread! So here I am starting the annual COI-all-in-one thread. My only one request when people post their reports and such is to post the name of the city and date in your subject, and if you have pictures, say something like say "Boise, Idaho Report and Pics" or "San Jose Show Report and Backstage Pics!" This is so people can search through the thread by subject looking for pictures, backstage stories easily, etc. since this thread does get very long by the time it's over.

Before rehearsal began, I ducked into one of the recreational rinks at the arena and chatted with a 9-year-old beginning skater from south Fort Myers. She hit the ice less than a year ago and hopes one day to compete in the Olympics.

This gives me hope.....My little girl is 9yrs old and is just starting to take private lessons.....and she wants to be a skating star like Michelle :bow

*sigh* You know what I wish? I wish we could watch each venue live like Eurosport does with the events :D .......I know some TV stations will stream a live feed into SOME arenas so you can watch the concert from home.

Throughout this afternoon's solo rehearsals, several skaters have complained that the "floor" lights on the ice aren't bright enough, which can be disorienting for skaters spinning and speeding across the ice. They've been told the lights are as bright as they can go.

I wouldn't read into it too much. Yes, she's recovering over an injury and this is the opening night. I would be willing to bet it's nerves and concentration more than anything. If she were hurting badly, than you would be seeing grimacing, bending over in pain, things of that sort I think. She's just not smiling...and there is more than one reason why that could be.

Think positive for her!

Probably no pics, I dont have a good camera for that kind of situation. But if I get by the buses or something like that I will. My Palm PC ROCKS for that! I have no idea just how high up my seat is, but if it is not too high I will try to catch a little vid, nothing illegal just enough so ya'll can see her dress etc...

I really couldnt afford it either, especially since I am driving up from the Keys, but I figured I just had to see The Kween and since most of the Olympians were going to be there this would be a good opportunity too for a great show. Besides COI never gets to South Florida 'cept for the OLY years.

Too bad you couldnt have gone with me, I am going by myself! The bad luck of being single, I guess. All my friends are busy. I was like oh well. I will just have to make friends with my seat mates. I hope they dont mind pushy broads. :D Especially Kween Lovers!

I just got home from the COI Ft Myers and stopped at a computer place along the way so I could write a short review-- the show was great!! It was the first live skating I have seen. Needless to say , Michelle was the heart of the show for me- I cried each time she came on the ice and it was great just to be in the same room as she was!!. She looked beautiful and I didn't find her skating "tentative" at all. She received the most applause of anyone and what looked like a partial standing ovation. She skated to "Around the World" in the closing segment and wore white. It is simply wonderful that she is back! My other favorite performances were Plushenko who was quite dazzling, Totiamanna and Marinin who skated a gorgeous program to The Music of the Night, and Anissina and Pezerat who skated to something from Star Wars and didn't get as much applause as they deserved. Sasha was gorgeous -- she really has a presence on the ice and I appreciated her skating for the first time. She was in a beautiful sparkly red costume and performed to America the Beautiful. I am techinacally challenged but I think she did a beautiful Ina Bauer and her spirals were great, but she had trouble on all of her jumps. I can't leave out Johnny Weir, who was also wonderful skating to My Way. :)

Kimmie did 'somewhere over the rainbow', she had a really pretty blue dress on. She did a clean program and it was very smooth, music was kindof boring but the program was nice, i enjoyed it!

Evan's program was cool! he had a boombox with him and one music would start and then after he skated to it a bit, he would go to the boombox, take out a CD and play different music...he did the 'cd change' about 3 times.
If i can remember....one music change was Hound dog by Elvis, one was Omarion (im not sure about this one...i THINK it was by him but im not that farmilliar with the song) and the other song...idk what it was!
He skated good, no falls and it was really entertaining

when he walked out on the ice you heard what was suppost to be his voice
it saaaid something like
"darn its my turn already? i havent even picked out my music yet...oh well i guess i have some ideas i can try out"

And no sectionals yet, since last year was my first qualifying regionals (juvenile) this year im skating intermediate since i will be turning 13 on the 28th.

Thanks soo Much for everybody who reported and shared their experiences from the show. Thankyou for all the clippings, the picture and the videos. It's truely delightful to see all these reports of Michelle back on the ice. Espeicially since most of us probabaly won't make it to any of the shows this summers. Just seeing the first 30 second of Michelle's new exhibition is already making me choke up. This has made my day better.

One of my first graders came in the other day freaking out "I'm going to see Michelle Kwan in her concert!" I thought it was cute the way he said it. Then he asked if I was going to be there and I said "Of course!" and he said "I knew it." :) I'm glad he knows it as "Michelle's" show...I mean, why else would you go?

I dont know. I find this embarrassing. The man that was sitting beside me who was dragged to this by his wife really stiffend up on this one. You know, its like, all the reasons he tells his old lady he doesnt want to go to the skating show wrapped up in one program. Rear shaking, stripping, sequins, disco. this was supposed to be like a flashback of the 94 OLY. Dan was skating his program with Uncle Dick to the Play by Play. Whenever Uncle Dick would say Dan needs to do something Dan would act it out. Like he needs to complete a certain type of jump...bam the jump. or where a certain costume....he would strip to have it on....remove the Russian skater....he knocks him out It was cute. And it was great to hear Uncle Dick in the Arena generous applause

She skated this really well. I didnt notice the airplane arms as much. Her jumps are strong, (ETA that she did pop two jumps, but the others where great) and she looks really tall on the ice. I think this could be great experience for her, especially when she goes full time on tour. She is smart, I can see her be the quite little mouse and learning from all these skaters. I bet those airplane arms leave real quick. audience loves her

weir skated to my way and was amazing I counted his turns on one foot, those slow twizzle things and he did 9. his jumps were solid, and his spins awesome. the slfw was fast too. I love this program. The only thing I see about JW is that he never projects to the audience. He doesnt look up and let us go for the ride with him too. I hope it comes. Big applause

b and a did the celeb spoof at first ben was sea connery with a kilt and they did puttin on the ritz then a quick costume change and tanith was paris hilton great program then the judge wated real skaters another quck change and they did the very end of the latin od oly program with the very end being lets get loud
Very fun and the audience ate it up. Very cool stuff with the purse that Tanith does as a prop. Loud applause

petrenko did sammy davis jr birth to the blues cool suit He seemed winded, but he is def not a youngster. I see where Plushy got some inspiration. Still has some big jumps thats for sure. Polite applause.


gwendal and marina acted out stAr wars episode three it looked very cool The geeky dork Star Wars nerd in me loved loved loved this. They start off in the Jedi cloaks with the lights off and the light sabers on . The spots on the ice are green and it gives it an eery feeling and makes the ice look wild. As they move along, Gwendal becomes Anakin and she becomes Amidala. Really different and cool. The audience seemed to like it. Warm reception.

Katia, sorry we're both missing it tonight. I'm off to the hospital to visit my hubby, and Michelle is right here in my home town.

A side note, I sprained my groin muscle the same day Michelle sprained hers. Mine is nowhere near healed. Maybe I have a day without pain now and again, but then out of nowhere the pain is bad enough to wake me up at night, or cause me to fall if I turn my foot the wrong way. She has to be very careful, until she's positive she's completely healed. I would pay money to watch her skate in circles and do nothing else, but MrG is in bad shape, so off to the hospital I go.

Have fun to all who will attend! Can't wait for more reports and pictures. It's sooooo nice to see her smiling! Her smile lights up my life!

Finally sat down to post the rest of my report but now we are getting tidbits about tonights show!!! Most of what I was gonna write about the other skaters was already covered...I will say that Michelle got the most applause but it wasn't explosive like in the past. Actually Sasha got a big reception when she came out then her applause after the performance was not as big...might be because of the botched jump attempts. Michelle was the last to perform and was highlighted in the finale --not everyone was highlighted. Forgot to mention Kimmie--she skated early--like 4th I think. Nice skating...Somewhere over the rainbow... I swear I have seen that program before! Maybe when she was younger? I'm not sure. Irina was good. She played to the crowd better than in the past. I kept thinking about the hamburger thing when she skated right by me...LOL. Her costume had fringing in the front and a really nice glittery back. I like the back way better. The front made her look like she had a really hairy chest! I have never seen her skate from so close....I will say that those jumps are high! Plushenko is so charismatic on the ice. I love that footwork. The russian gold medalists were breathtaking on the ice. I wish they would stay in longer. There isn't anyone close to them amongst the other russian pairs. I love watching high quality pairs skating. Like I said before, their stroking is incredible. Barely hear the blades and they seem to gain speed effortlessly. Evan was great but I only caught half since I was trying to type my mini play by play reports. Trying to get all the pics uploaded with photobucket but its time consuming! I have to say something and I hope I don't offend anyone...the Fort Myers crowd was very "contained" and I think its because half the crowd was over 65!! No Lie! I have never seen so many skating fans in that age groupe in one place! I guess they were not in the mood to jump out of their seats like I was when she was announced. I actually got a funny look from the little old man sitting next to me when I recognized michelle's shape standing in the darkness about to be announced before her program. I started screaming and he actually gave me a hush look! In orlando, I guarantee Michelle will get the crazy loud reception she deserves. That same man proceeded to ask me what I was doing with my PDA later on! I explained I was part of MKF and that there were people waiting desperately for reports on Michelle. The man looked at me like I was crazy! My husband laughed about it the whole way home.
Its been a long season with out our gal. I am so happy I got to see her smiling, happy and skating! Who needs jumps when you are Michelle Kwan! The choreography was intricate and appropriate and I would love to watch it just one more time. Can't wait to hear all the reports as the tour continues. I'm sure she will put some of her beautiful jumps in by the end of the tour.

My wife and I just returned from the first show of Champions on Ice in Fort Lauderdale. For those of you who have been wondering or holding off buying tickets, MK was there. She was not at full speed, but it was good just to see her gliding around the ice. I promised her a standing “O” if she would just do that much. She did and I gave her what I promised. She did no jumps at all, and her spiral was not its usual long, edge and direction changing beauty we are used to. But she was there and that was wonderful to see. I was on the first row so I got some very close looks at her. I could see no evidence of a wrap on her thigh. The hose on her legs were very thick, so it may have been a support type, but I couldn’t swear to it. I would say she was being very cautious, which is fine with me.

Though MK was what I came to see, the rest of the show was fantastic. Sasha skated great. Kemmie stepped out once, but otherwise (if I’m remembering correctly) was very good. Irina Slutskaya was beautiful, as usual. The French dance pair of Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat did a beautiful number that left tears in my eyes. Ben and Tanith ended their program very well, but they tried a comedy routine at the beginning. They’re so SEXY together when they dance to the more traditional stuff, they shouldn’t even try anything else.

As for the men, you’ll have to ask my wife for the more glowing descriptions. Let’s just say that she will not wash her hand, ever again. She got HIGH FIVES from Victor Petrenko and Ben Agosto as they were leaving the ice after their programs. She has been in a state of bliss ever since. Johnny Weir skated to his “My Way” program and did it very well. Evgeni Plushenko was amazing. When Maxim Marinin lifted Tatiana over his head in the same lift he dropped her from, she literally flew right over my head. I was praying, God, don’t let him drop her now.

I know I’ve left some out, but I’ll just say that they were all great. Evan Lysacek, Surya Bonaly, Rudy Galindo, the gorgeous Irina Grigorian and her amazing hula-hoops, Don Hollander, and the amazing team of Vladimir Besedin and Oleksiy Polishchuck, all of them kept me standing or on the edge of my seat the entire show.

For a while anyway, don’t go to the show expecting to see a ”lights out” performance from Michelle, but it’s worth it just to see her on skates. Do go to the show however. There is so much star power in this year’s COI, you will not be sorry.

Just got home ya'll sorry my battery got real low and I wanted to save it so I had some for the drive home in case I had an emergency.

after the intermission it was

Irina the Hoop Chick nothing different but she did twirl a 3D box at the end of her routine. She performed to a euroy-disco type song about dressing and acting a certain type of way for a man (I believe) I have heard it before but sorry I cant remember the name of the artist Polite applause

Evan L was next, his act was that he was not prepared he came out with a boom box and a voice over of like "Oh no, I dont have a number yet, but I have a few songs in mind...here they are" Something along those lines. He was dressed in sweats and a yellow shirt that said Artist Wanted (I think) on the back. The first song was a hip hop one that I dont like (LOL) I think its Man on the Floor. His skating was HOT. Jumps great! Spins Fast! Then he skates over to the boom box and kills that song (mercifully) and starts a country number , sorry I cant read my writing on my notes, and I dont recognize the song. Then he repeats the stopping the song but he then goes into Houndog by Elvis. At least that was a good song! Generous applause

Next up Irina S.
She skated to Big Spender...I commented "How Appropiate" quite loud and got a look from the lady in front of me. But hey, at least I didnt bring stuffed cheeseburgers from Margaritaville in Key West to throw! LOL She skated really well. Cute black and silver costume (dress) with a bowler hat (tossed it real quick) She shook her rear alot in one corner of the ice...but it was a cute routine...and only two b-mans. Oh stepped out of a triple toe (i think)

Beautiful costumes, He was in black I think but hers was all white. The back has a cut out that looks like the decal on a 70's era Trans Am, but the dress is gorg. The program looks like a competition program. It is beautiful...did I say it was good? I never cared much for them, but wow they are good. Probably the best program of the day. Technically very difficult Crowd loved them.

Very pretty dress, God bless America by Celine Dion. The crowd loves her. Loud applause when she was announced. She skated well. Landed all her jumps. One wonky landing, you know that soft knee thing she has, but overall good program. I think she may have choreographed it. Some of the placement of the elements seemed odd.

Uh I dont know, from the waist up its so fab, but if you watch him from the waist down I just dont think much is going on. But dang he CAN JUMP! and his spins were really centered and fast. The crowd loved him. He blew kisses and all that crowd pleasing stuff. Loud cheers for him

A huge roar when she was announced
She is wearing a blue dress to skate the program in. She does this move:Taj twice in the program. Also those cools side to side swizzle things she has done in FOG and EOE. She does the hydroblade move and goes around almost twice in a circle. There is another neat move that is kinda like a shoot the duck except she is not close to the ice she is upright. Then she slowly brings her outstretched leg around to a semi spiral position.

She does her smiral the whole length of the rink and then some. I noticed that she seems to have dropped her back a bit, but I bet its due to hip/groin injury. It was still beautiful though. I loved the program . Tons of gorgeous edge work. Wait till you see it. I hope I gave ya'll a little idea of what I thought it looked like.

they went right to the closing number. It was some goofy looking deal where they are weariing victorian era clothes, with arches that are supposed to be like gazebos. They played some theme music and Rudy and Surya and Dan skated around to it Tanith and Ben too I think. It made me want Ice Cream. Cause it sounded like the ice cream man should be comin. LOL then all the sudden the music changes to like Frank Sinatra stuff and everyone is in white and it was much better. Michelle had left the ice after her little solo at this point and I kinda lost interest (ducks) so I cant remember all the music sorry. I goes on for a bit then ends with a big cresendo and skate around and thats it.

Check back in a bit for edits on the previous posts while I was at the show, I am gonna go back and add more to them. Sorry I couldnt do all this while I was there.

I'm going to cry if I don't get to go, because the only time they come to St. Louis is for the Olympic year. I do so want to see Michelle skate live. sigh.
