I went to SOI last night, and I had such a blast! It was the 1st time I've ever gone. I couldn't tell you who I like best, but here are some of my impressions:
~1st I must say that Yuka Sato live blows me away! Now I know what the term "skater's skater" means! She may not have flashy, WOW moves, but I was mesmerized by her. And she was awesome with Jason as a pair skater, too!
~Elena and Anton, wow, some of their moves had be awed-struck. I have no idea what anything was called, but they did this one "release" throw (lol) where he's skating backwards, throws her, turns forward and then catches her, that I was just like,"Oh! I wanna see that again!"
~Jamie and David were just so much fun to watch. I think I like them more after Olympic Ice! Kinda felt like I "know" them!
~Jennifer Robinson is also more impressive in person. She was cute in the # she did with the guys to "What Lola wants..." She is so tall!
~Todd looked stiffer to me than he normally does, but someone said he had an injury? Still, he's such a great skater. I really enjoyed his 1st number-Alexander's Ragtime (??? sorry if I butchered the name!) and he really looks to be enjoying himself out there.
~I love Alexi! Wow, he has such presence on the ice and his powerful skating comes across. I think he really connects with the audience. His FW always got the audience going.
~Steven Cousins is pretty cool, too! He did this one sequence where he does a russian split, triple (doubled it last night), russian split, triple. Very neat! I've never seen him skate before and I enjoyed him last night.
~John and Kyoko were great, too! Anyone know why they only skated one solo? They came out on the ice twice, started their program and was stopped-once Scott "called" them and they left, the other time Yuka came out with a telegram and then they left then too. I must have missed something, but I was confused!
The group numbers were very entertaining and my eyes were darting everywhere trying to watch them all! It was great! My boyfriend came with me and he thought Yuka was "So adorable!"-couldn't get over how tiny and muscular she is. He also really enjoyed Elena and Anton. We had a blast!
